Michelin achieved a notable accomplishment in the 2024 U.S. Original Equipment Tire Customer Satisfaction Study by winning its 100th, 101st, and 102nd J.D. Power Awards.
Michelin achieved top scores for Luxury, Passenger Car, and Performance Sport Vehicles in Original Equipment Tire Customer Satisfaction for 2024. This accomplishment showcases Michelin’s dedication to providing top-notch tire quality and performance, as shown by responses from drivers throughout the United States.
Shrader Tire and Oil is proud to have been associated with Michelin for more than 60 years.
Alexis Garcin, President and CEO of Michelin, commended the tire company’s achievements, crediting the hard work of their employees in developing, constructing, and supplying tires.
The research, which gathered responses from more than 31,000 vehicle owners, evaluated contentment across four main categories: tire longevity, tire ride quality, tire aesthetics, and tire grip/handling. Michelin’s ongoing triumph showcases its lasting dedication to customer contentment and tire quality.

For more than 75 years, Shrader Tire and Oil has been Keeping the Transportation Industry Rolling and Safe!
Congratulations are in order for our very own MRT II plant – located in Pemberville, Ohio – after Michelin gave high marks to the retread facility in its annual audit.
“My team deserves all the credit,” said MRT II Manager John Taylor. “They are a great team that cares about what goes to our customers. They’re a fun group to mentor and coach.”
Michelin annually does an audit of retread facilities. The scores given to MRT II for the recent audit include:
• 100 percent for Safety
• 99 percent for Process Quality Audit – The auditor goes post-to-post and interacts with the operators to ensure they can perform the functions by applying work methods and specifications correctly.
• 99 percent for Finished Product Quality Audit. The auditor chooses 20 random tires from the warehouse ready to go to the customer and brings them back into the plant, putting them through a rigorous inspection to ensure proper work methods were followed.
“A lot of hard work goes into ensuring we are producing at the highest quality retread level possible in the industry,” said Bob Watters, STO’s general manager of manufacturing. “Thank you to the MRT II team for exercising our STO vision to keep the transportation industry rolling and safe!”
An audit at MRT I will come later this spring.
TOLEDO, Ohio — Employees and family members of Shrader Tire & Oil volunteered Saturday to build a playhouse for a local family.
Partnering with the Maumee Valley Habitat for Humanity, Shrader Tire & Oil employees designed, painted and built the 4-foot wide, 5-foot-long playhouse that was then donated to a Toledo family for their three children, ages 2-6.
The community project is part of Shrader Tire & Oil celebrating its 75 years in business in 2023. One of the company’s Core Values is Community Involvement.
Shrader Tire & Oil employees chose a barnyard theme for the playhouse, painting both inside and outside of the structure, using bright colors and amazing designs. While Maumee Valley Habitat for Humanity team leaders supervised, the team painted the structure, put up the four walls, created window borders and applied shingles to the roof. Using a big red barn as the theme, the playhouse included a bright blue sky, horses, cows, pigs, and sheep.
A family of five came to Shrader Tire & Oil headquarters on Sylvania Ave. in Toledo to view the finished project and take it home with them.
It was an amazing opportunity for Shrader Tire & Oil to contribute to Maumee Valley Habitat for Humanity.
Shrader Tire & Oil was founded in 1948 and has been located on Sylvania Ave. for most of the past 75 years. There are also 18 other locations in Ohio, Michigan and Indiana, including multiple fleet stores, two Michelin retread plants and a bulk oil facility.
TOLEDO, Ohio – Shrader Tire and Oil is celebrating its 75th Birthday on Wednesday, April 19, 2023.
In the spring of 1948, Jim and Bernadine Shrader founded Shrader Tire & Oil in Toledo, Ohio. A true family business, their children Jim Jr., Gerri, and Patti filled roles in the company after school. In the evenings, Jim Sr. would instill the importance of values like honesty, integrity and commitment and customer service as the family sat around the dinner table.
The family-owned company has flourished over the years. In 1985, Jim Shrader Sr. handed the company down to his son. Soon Jim Jr. looked to the commercial trucking market as the next area to expand the business. As the company grew, so did the Shrader family; many of which became the third generation to run the business.
In the year 2000, Jim Shrader Jr. handed the company down to his son, Joe Shrader. Like most of our staff, Joe rose through the ranks in the business, gaining valuable experience along the way by working in all facets of the company.
Even though the Shrader business model has shifted over the years, the foundation and core values that Jim & Bernie believed in still hold true today and practiced by third and fourth-generation members.
Today, with 15 truck tire and fleet service centers, two state-of-the-art Michelin retread plants, and four bulk lubricant operations larger than ever, Shrader Tire & Oil has become the premier tire and lubricant distributor in the Midwest.
By aligning ourselves with Chevron & Michelin, Shrader brings value to our customers for less. In addition to providing the highest quality products in the industry, Shrader offers the best service in the region. Our knowledge and expertise go well beyond our product lines. We strive to create loyal partnerships with our customers while providing measurable solutions for lowering operating costs through our high-performance products and extreme customer service.
This week has been recognized globally as Brake Safety Week by the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA).
Brake Safety Week is an annual commercial motor vehicle brake-safety inspection, enforcement and education initiative conducted by law enforcement jurisdictions in Canada, Mexico and the U.S. During Brake Safety Week, inspectors will conduct their usual North American Standard Level I and V Inspections and capture and report brake-related data to CVSA. The results will be released in the fall.
Brake-related violations comprise the largest percentage of all out-of-service vehicle violations cited during roadside inspections, and according to last year’s three-day International Roadcheck data, brake systems and brake adjustment violations accounted for 38.9% of all vehicle out-of-service violations, the most of any category of vehicle violations. To address this, CVSA’s Brake Safety Week seeks to:
During the brake portion of a vehicle inspection, inspectors will look for missing, non-functioning, loose, contaminated or cracked parts on the brake system, and non-manufactured holes (such as rust holes and holes created by rubbing or friction) and broken springs in the spring brake housing section of the parking brake. They will listen for audible air leaks around brake components and lines, and ensure the air system maintains air pressure between 90-100 psi (620-690 kPa). Inspectors will also check for S-cam flip-over and measure pushrod travel. They will check that slack adjusters are the same length (from center of S-cam to center of clevis pin) and the air chambers on each axle are the same size. They will also inspect required brake-system warning devices, such as ABS malfunction lamp(s) and low air-pressure warning devices. In addition, inspectors will ensure the breakaway system is operable on the trailer, and inspect the tractor protection system, including the bleed-back system on the trailer.
In addition to reporting total inspections and brake-related out-of-service violations, inspectors will also capture and provide data on brake hose/tubing chafing violations – the focus area for this year’s Brake Safety Week.
“Poorly maintained brake systems can reduce the braking capacity and stopping distance of large trucks and motorcoaches, which poses a serious risk to driver and public safety,” said CVSA President Capt. John Broers with the South Dakota Highway Patrol. “In those split-second emergency situations, the proper functionality of the brake systems on large commercial motor vehicles is crucial.”
